Outdoor Counselling

Outdoor counselling is one of the ways Mend Melbourne offers therapeutic support, alongside online and phone-based counselling.

By combining gentle movement, time in nature, and meaningful conversation, outdoor counselling provides an alternative to traditional room-based therapy. For some people, being outdoors makes it easier to feel present, grounded, and open.

 Hiking in the
Dandenong Ranges

These sessions combine individual counselling, physical activity, and time in nature in a single, integrated approach to mental health and wellbeing.

While walking on established trails in the Dandenong Ranges, you engage in the same therapeutic counselling offered at Mend Melbourne.

Alongside this, gentle to moderate walking supports physical health and emotional regulation, while exposure to natural environments is associated with reduced stress, improved mood, and increased psychological wellbeing.

For people who value movement and the outdoors, hiking sessions offer a way to support mental health while also investing in physical health and connection with nature - three complementary elements working together.

Suitable for beginners to intermediate walkers.

Cycling & Gravel Riding Counselling

These sessions intentionally integrate counselling, exercise, and outdoor exposure for clients who already ride confidently.

Cycling provides moderate to vigorous physical activity, which research consistently links to improved mood, reduced anxiety, and overall mental wellbeing.

When combined with time spent in natural environments, these benefits may be further enhanced. Counselling is delivered alongside riding, allowing therapeutic work to occur while you are actively supporting both your mental and physical health.

For some people, this approach aligns more naturally with their values, lifestyle, and wellbeing goals -
offering a way to care for multiple aspects of health at once.

Suitable for intermediate to experienced riders.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise their enduring connection to this land, its waters, and culture.

We honour the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and acknowledge the profound and lasting impacts of colonisation, including generational trauma and the devastation caused by policies of dispossession, forced removal, and systemic injustice.

In this space, we also acknowledge the deep scars left by childhood sexual abuse and other forms of trauma within First Nations communities, compounded by historical and intergenerational pain. We commit to listening, learning, and working alongside First Nations peoples to foster healing, respect, and meaningful reconciliation.

May this acknowledgement remind us of our shared responsibility to nurture a future of justice, equity, and hope.
